The Bachelor program requires 173 credits, consisting of 136 credits in spring/fall semesters, 4 credits in senior projects, 18 credits in summer practice and military training, and 15 credits of a final thesis. The courses are classified into five categories: Humanities and Social Sciences, core engineering courses, core Industrial Engineering courses, summer practice and internship, and a thesis component.
International programs have been initiated since 2001 including Tsinghua-Aachen joint master program and Tsinghua-Gatech exchange program. And a two-year, professional-orientated master’s program in Management Science and Engineering (Global Manufacturing) was founded in 2009 for students with a global vision in management science and engineering, with special focus on the manufacturing industry in China.
The doctoral degree program usually lasts 3 to 5 years. Students with Master’s degree usually spend 3 to 4 years. The program has 22 credits consisting of 13 credits of core courses, and 5 credits of research requirements. Students without an IE related Master’s degree shall take prerequisite courses suggested by the advisor.
Admissions to the International Program of Master of Engineering Management (iMEM)
On March 28th, the Logistics and Supply Chain Research Center of IE Department was founded in Jiaozhou, Qingdao. Prof. Zuo-jun Max Shen, the department head, Prof. Simin Huang, the vice department head, Assoc. Prof. Linning Cai, and Assoc. Prof. Wanshan Zhu, along with Jiaozhou city government officers, and representatives from local associations and enterprises attended the ceremony. At the same time, the Cold Chain Experiment Base, Tsinghua-UNC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base, and Jiaozhou Logistics and Supply Chain Association were founded.
The Logistics and Supply Chain Research Center is aimed to integrate resources of Tsinghua University with the Jiaozhou city, and develop industry-university-research cooperation. The center will bring Hi-tech innovation projects and become the incubator of logistics sci-tech start-ups, as well as the supply chain economy think tank and public service platforms.
Prof. Zuojun Shen said, the research center would mark a “win-win” stage between industrialization R&D and technological achievements. More and more start-ups which focused on market demands, technology of internet of things and were supported by VCs, could gain a lot from the research center.

The research center was supported by an academic board, an industrial council, and an expert committee. It has started projects such as online education, picking robot, intelligent field equipment, freight rates public information platform, and so on. Tsinghua-UNC EMBA students joined in the projects. Industry funds supported a second undertaking. The industry funds would build practical training classrooms, support applications of RFID technology and supply financial services. The research center would become one of the best Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bases in China.
