The Bachelor program requires 173 credits, consisting of 136 credits in spring/fall semesters, 4 credits in senior projects, 18 credits in summer practice and military training, and 15 credits of a final thesis. The courses are classified into five categories: Humanities and Social Sciences, core engineering courses, core Industrial Engineering courses, summer practice and internship, and a thesis component.
International programs have been initiated since 2001 including Tsinghua-Aachen joint master program and Tsinghua-Gatech exchange program. And a two-year, professional-orientated master’s program in Management Science and Engineering (Global Manufacturing) was founded in 2009 for students with a global vision in management science and engineering, with special focus on the manufacturing industry in China.
The doctoral degree program usually lasts 3 to 5 years. Students with Master’s degree usually spend 3 to 4 years. The program has 22 credits consisting of 13 credits of core courses, and 5 credits of research requirements. Students without an IE related Master’s degree shall take prerequisite courses suggested by the advisor.

Summit of China's Manufacturing and Logistics Industries and the 12th Dongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition, which was organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, was held in the main building of Tsinghua University on January 13-14, 2018. More than 500 people, including the industrial experts, entrepreneurs, representatives from universities, and faculty and students from the Department attended this event. The final of the 12th Dongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition was officially unveiled on January 14, 2018. Prof. Ershi Qi, Director of Industrial Engineering Education Steering Committee of Ministry of Education and Vice Director of Academic Committee of Tianjin University, Prof. Zhibin Jiang, Vice Chairman of Chinese Industrial Engineering Institute of CMES, Mr. Yulong Yang, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company’s Manufacturing Department Director, and Prof. Kaibo Wang, Vice Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, delivered their speeches at the competition. This competition received 232 cases from enterprises and universities across the country. All the competition teams made presentations and a panel of 68 expert judges were invited to give scores. At last, the competition teams from Jilin University and Southwest University of Science and Technology were awarded the Grand Prize for Universities, and the competition teams from Baoji CRRC Times Engineering Machinery Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company Huadou Plant received the Grand Prize for Enterprises. The competition teams from Tsinghua University, China University of Mining and Technology and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics were recognized as the First Prize for Universities, and the competition teams from Dongfeng Motor Company Limited Dongfeng Nissan Dalian Branch, Zhejiang Chint Electrics Co., Ltd. and Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. received the First Prize for Enterprises. Some judges, including Prof. Dequn Zhou, Dean of College of Economics and Management of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Prof. Su Wu from Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, Prof. Feng Wu, Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of School of Management of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Prof. Liang Gao, Vice Director of Research and Development Office of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, made comments on each competition team’s performance.
After the prize-awarding ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Lefei Li, the Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Vice Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, said in the final speech that the platform to show IE charms will continuously be provided to get all the outstanding IE talents together so that they can promote and lead the theoretical research and industrial applications.
