On the afternoon of May 18th, Prof. Uday Kumar, Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and professor at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, was awarded as Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University. At the awarding ceremony at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Prof. Yanfu Li issued the certificate for Prof. Uday Kumar. Then Prof. Uday Kumar gave a presentation entitled “Reliability and Maintenance of Railway Assets: Research Focus and Future Directions”.

Prof. Kumar has been engaged in research work related to reliability and maintenance engineering for more than 30 years and is an internationally recognized expert in the field. He founded the Department of Operation and Maintenance Engineering at Luleå University in Sweden and developed the Luleå Railway Research Centre, Sweden. Prof. Kumar was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering and Science (IVA) in 2014. Prof. Kumar will collaborate with the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Institute of Quality and Reliability in areas such as intelligent maintenance of railways and sustainable development.
