【Abstract】

RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology has shown itself to be a promising technology to track movements of goods in manufacturing industry. It brings unprecedented visibility which can save labor cost, improve production coordination, reduce inventory and WIP, and support decision making. A lot of publications are filled with estimates and proclamations of the benefits and quantified values of RFID. However most of them are still quite away from the practical implementation. This talk investigates how RFID can be used in different industrial sectors by showing various realistic applications. Some challenges and future directions are reviewed and summarized to help industry realize the full potentials of RFID.

【Bio】

Dr. Qin Wei gained his Ph.D. in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) Department, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2011. Before he came to Hong Kong, he worked for China Academy of Safety Science and Technology for one year. He got his master degree in Tsinghua University and bachelor degree in Shanghai Jiao Tong University respectively. Dr. Qin has been involved in research projects in the areas of Industrial Informatics, Collaborative Product Design & Manufacturing and Cross-Border Logistics & Supply Chain Management. He has published several research and technical papers in journals and conferences. He won the Merit for the Hong Kong RFID Awards U-21 RFID Awards in 2009 and was awarded the University Postgraduate Fellowships by HKU.
