[Abstract]
To succeed, businesses need leaders who bring new perspectives, new thinking and new ideas – and who have the skills and knowledge to manage in an uncertain world. Leadership is about the art of motivating, influencing and directing people so that they work together to achieve the goals of a team or broader organization. It’s important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership begins with identifying and understanding our values. Our values are our fundamental beliefs – those principles we consider to be worthwhile and desirable. Leadership is important for students as every student should be capable of exercising leadership in different contexts. The more leadership is encouraged, the more it flourishes. Along with knowledge, problem-solving and communication, leadership is one of the most important skills a student can learn at university. This lecture is designed to provide solid foundation about leaders and its changing trends in both private and public sector. Leadership is at the heart of organizational effectiveness and employee engagement. Leadership is a dynamic concept and there is leaderSHIFT where traditional models seem to be ineffective. There are new paradigms of leadership and motivation puzzles applied in corporate sector for higher productivity and achievement of goals.
