On August 23, 2016, seventy-three new postgraduate students of the IE Department registered at Tsinghua University (THU), including 36 full-time Ph.D. students, 19 master students and 17 international students. The Teaching Affaires Office and student organizations welcomed the students together, and distributed introduction brochures to students. Professors Zhizhong Li and others faculty representatives also joined the activity to welcome new students. All students, including international students that are new China, received their own THU email account, as a symbol of starting their new life at Tsinghua.

The Orientation Ceremony of the IE Department, hosted by Prof. Chen Wang, director of postgraduate students affairs office, was held at RM C202 of the Sixth Teaching Building at 9:00am on August 26. Prof. Zhizhong Li, and Prof. Liang Ma and staffs of the Teaching Affairs Office attended the ceremony as well. In his welcome speech, Prof. Zhizhong Li encouraged that the postgraduate students should be self-inspired and self-administrative, which are the main features that separate postgraduates and undergraduates.

Later, Prof. Liang Ma introduced the educational curriculum of the international program, and presented the outstanding faculty team of the Department. Prof. Chen Wang shared with the new students the history, academic and research achievements and future development of the department.

After the Ceremony, the new PhD class and master class respectively made their first class meeting, during which they listened to experience shared by senior students, and elected their new class committee.
