Semyon M. Meerkov 教授1966年从前苏联莫斯科控制科学研究所获得系统科学博士学位。在前苏联莫斯科控制科学研究所从事研究工作至1977年。由国际著名的优化专家贝尔曼介绍到美国进行合作研究, 后执教于伊利诺伊理工学院。自1984年起在美国一流的密西根大学(University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) 电子工程与计算机科学系担任终身教授。曾在美国斯坦福大学和加州大学洛杉矶分校访问。Meerkov教授的研究方向是系统与控制理论及在生产系统和通信网络中的应用。由于他在生产系统的研究上的突出成就,曾获1990年国际自动控制联合会世界大会的应用论文奖;并当选为IEEE会士 (Fellow)。他担任着国际知名学术期刊 Mathematical Problems in Engineering 的主编,并任国际著名期刊 IIE Transactions 在制造系统领域的编辑和多家杂志的编委。曾多次在主要国际会议上作大会报告。

Bio sketch:

Semyon M. Meerkov received his MSEE degree from the Polytechnic of Kharkov, Ukraine, in 1962 and Ph.D. in Systems Science from the Institute of Control Sciences, Moscow, Russia, in 1966. He was with the Institute of Control Sciences until 1977. From 1979 to 1984 he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL. Since 1984 he has been a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. He held visiting positions at UCLA (1978-1979), Stanford (1991) and served as the Lady Davis Visiting Professor at the Technion, Israel (1997-1998). He has been the Editor-in-Chief of Mathematical Problems in Engineering, and currently is the Department Editor for Manufacturing Systems of IIE Transactions and Associate Editor of several other journals. His research interests are in Systems and Control with applications to Production Systems, Communication Networks, and Mathematical Theory of Rational Behavior.

报告摘要:

Industrial systems typically consist of equipment and personnel involved in its operation. The issues of the equipment and its performance have been studied for decades. In contrast, the problem of personnel and its effect on the overall system efficiency has been analyzed by rigorous mathematical tools in just a few publications. This talk is intended to provide an approach to this problem. Specifically, we describe the Mathematical Theory of Rational Behavior (MTRB) and show that it can be used for designing pay and incentive systems, which induce the desirable personnel performance, based on its own self-interest. In conclusion, a research program in this direction is outlined and a few other applications of MTRB are mentioned (e.g., in the Internet routing problem, resilient sensor networks, and power-aware wireless personal area networks.).
