On July 5, the “Industrial Engineering and Data Analytics” Summer School (hereinafter referred to as “the Summer School”), hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University, officially kicked off. Fifteen outstanding students from the United States, Brazil, Peru, Germany, Vietnam, South Korea, and India gathered at Tsinghua for a 14-day journey of academic learning and cross-cultural exploration. With a focus on the frontiers of industrial engineering and data analytics, the program integrates theoretical study, hands-on practice, company visits, and cultural immersion, aiming to provide participants with a high-level platform to understand China's industrial development and broaden their global perspectives.

In the morning of July 5, the students participated in the Tsinghua University 2025 Unity in Diversity: University Summer Day, where over 200 international students gathered to experience the university’s global atmosphere. Vice President Bai Benfeng of Tsinghua University delivered a warm welcome speech, expressing sincere expectations for international youth. Pedro Dapoza, a student representative from our Summer School, was the only student to give a speech, where he shared his excitement and expectations for the program.

On July 6, the official opening ceremony of the Summer School was held. Prior to the ceremony, students toured the campus, learning about Tsinghua’s century-long history and rich academic culture, while experiencing the spirit of “Self-Discipline and Social Commitment.”

At the opening ceremony, Nannan Liu, Associate Dean of the Office of International Affairs, delivered a speech welcoming students from around the world and highlighting Tsinghua’s achievements in global academic exchange. Associate Professor Chen Wang, Deputy Dean of Teaching at the Department of Industrial Engineering, introduced the department’s development, academic strengths, faculty, and international programs. Associate Professor Xiaolei Xie also delivered a speech as a faculty representative, encouraging students to stay curious, open-minded, and to enjoy the process of learning and cultural exchange. The ceremony was hosted by Haitao Wang, Supervisor of the International Master's Program of the Department.

Following the ceremony, students introduced themselves, formed teams, and selected their group project topics. The topics cover high-speed railway, new energy vehicles, smartphones, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence, reflecting the wide-ranging applications of industrial engineering and data analytics in modern industries.

Over the next two weeks, the Summer School will focus on key areas in industrial systems, data applications, and sustainable development etc. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, helping students deepen their understanding of how industrial engineering and intelligent systems are applied in the real world. Through on-site company visits, students will gain insight into China's innovations in global industry, sparking reflection on the future of technology and systems design. In addition, a rich array of cultural experiences will allow students to immerse themselves in Chinese society and traditions, deepening their appreciation for China’s historical depth and modern vibrancy.
