On October 25, 2025, students and staff from the Industrial Engineering Department spent a memorable day cycling around the scenic Ming Tombs Reservoir. What began as a simple outdoor activity quickly grew into a shared experience that brought local and international participants closer together.
The group set off from campus in the morning and headed toward the reservoir, chatting on the bus and looking forward to the day ahead. After arriving at the bike rental station, participants quickly prepared their bikes. Students helped one another fine tune seat heights and laughed as they tested their balance.
The first stretch of the ride led the group to Triathlon Avenue, where the bright autumn light reflected across the reservoir. The stop became an instant icebreaker. Some participants took group photos while others exchanged first impressions of the day.

The journey continued toward the Emporer Yongle's tomb, Chang Ling. Even from the outside, the impressive architecture created a sense of stepping briefly into the past. Students shared fun historical facts and took another group photo before setting off again.

A short ride later, the group then reached a small village restaurant that served a generous variety of local dishes. The long round tables quickly filled with stories, cultural exchanges, and plenty of laughter. Many students said this shared meal stood out as a favorite, bringing everyone together with ease and warmth.
In the afternoon, the tree-lined route, glowing in shades of red and gold, offered peaceful views as the group cycled back toward the starting point. As the ride went on, conversations grew naturally, and those who were quiet in the morning were now cycling alongside new friends.
After returning the bicycles and gathering for the trip back to campus, the group ended the day tired but cheerful. The day gave everyone the chance to enjoy one of Beijing’s most beautiful historical spots while building new friendships and a stronger sense of community within the department.
Students’ Voice
I found the trip to be an incredible mix of sport, nature, and personal expansion. Cycling through the beautiful yet historical scenery was wonderfully relaxing, allowing us to enjoy the great outdoors. Moreover, the experience fostered a genuine intercultural exchange, encouraging us to open up, speak fluently with others in different languages, and significantly broaden our knowledge and circle of friends.

The activity provided a well-structured opportunity to integrate physical activity with cultural engagement, allowing us to appreciate the region’s scenic landscapes, expand our knowledge of local history, and interact with fellow students. It also introduced us to Chinese MEM program students working in leading companies, offering valuable insights into corporate practices. I am genuinely grateful to the university for organizing an event that was both informative and inspiring.

I felt that the cycling event was very professionally and meticulously organized, ensuring both safety and smoothness throughout the activity. As a MEM student from China, I joined IMEM students from Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, etc. While cycling, we engaged in in-depth discussions on culture, economy, current affairs, and other topics, truly achieving meaningful cross-cultural communication. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope that more similar activities will be organized in the future.
