ABSTRACT:  In this talk Professor Briggs will identify and discuss five trends that will have an impact on the business of global supply chain management in 2012.  These trends will directly impact both business practice as well as the academic field of supply chain managment.  Whether a practioner in the field or an academic with research interests in the area, these five trends are not to be missed.  This interactive discussion will include some recent examples of important global shifts in supply chain management, with an analysis of what these shifts will mean for the future of global supply chain management.


BIO: Professor Briggs is an internationally recognized supply chain educator with nearly twenty years of experience at the top-ranked Kelley School of Business.  He has been recognized for his innovative approach to management education, receiving teaching awards and accolades in the United States, Asia and the European Union.  He currently holds active academic appointments in the United States, Germany, and South Korea.   


His area of expertise is in strategic sourcing, within the larger context of supply chain and operations management.  He has trained hundreds of supply chain professionals in areas including value analysis/engineering (and by extension, the use of value analysis teams), supply base rationalization, total cost of care, inventory management,  effective contract management, as well as process improvement tools and initiatives.  As a faculty member at the Center for the Business of Life Sciences, he routinely works with healthcare executives to explore the linkages between good business decisions and execution and effective, value-based clinical outcomes.  


He currently directs the Global Supply Chain Management Academy at Indiana University, working with board of corporate advisors from a range of industries including consulting, pharmaceutical/biotech, medical devices, group purchasing organizations, and global diversified manufacturing.  Through the academy Briggs has directed projects on supply chain optimization, vendor selection, supplier relationship management, supply chain vulnerabilities in healthcare (pandemic simulations), and feasibility studies for private labeling options for healthcare GPOs.  The academy work also includes exploring the boundaries of sustainability, and leveraging technology and process innovation across the global supply chain.
