报告摘要：

Opened in 1908 as a board-governed public institution, the University of Alberta has grown to be one of Canada’s foremost research-intensive universities, with external research funding in 2004-05 of more than $415 million. The University of Alberta main campus and Campus Saint-Jean are located in Edmonton, the vibrant, cosmopolitan capital of the province of Alberta. In a metropolitan area with close to one million people, Edmonton showed the fastest economic growth of Canada’s major cities in 2004 when its economy increased by an impressive 6.2 per cent.

This presentation will provide a brief introduction of the University of Alberta, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Reliability Research Laboratory is housed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. An overview of the research personnel, on-going research projects, laboratory facilities, and sample research results generated by the research lab will be presented. 

Finally, the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the University of Alberta will also be introduced.

Dr. Ming J Zuo received the Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1982 from Shandong Institute of Technology, China, and the Master of Science degree in 1986 and the Ph.D. degree in 1989 both in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, U.S.A. He is currently Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. His research interests include system reliability analysis, maintenance planning and optimization, signal processing, and fault diagnosis. He is Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Reliability, Department Editor of IIE Transactions, Area Editor of the International Journal of Performability Engineering, and Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Quality, Reliability and Safety Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE and IIE. He received the Killam Professorship Award in 2004 and the McCalla Professorship Award in 2002 at the University of Alberta. He received the 2006 IIE Golomski Award and the Best Paper Award at the 2005 IIE Industrial Engineering Research Conference.
