Summit of China's Manufacturing and Logistics Industries and the 12th Dongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition, which was organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, was held in the main building of Tsinghua University on January 13-14, 2018. More than 500 people, including the industrial experts, entrepreneurs, representatives from universities, and faculty and students from the Department attended this event. Prof. Zhizhong Li, the Department Council Chair, gave an opening address at the Summit on January 13. Prof. Li Zheng, Director of university human resources department, made a keynote speech on Production Systems at the Industry 4.0 Era. Mr. Yulong Yang, who is the Director of Manufacturing Department of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, shared his ideas in his speech of Dongfeng Nissan’s Road to Smart Manufacturing with all the audiences. Mr. Xinghai Gao, Executive Vice Director and CTO of Aviation Industry Information Center and Executive Deputy General Manager of Jinhang Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Mr. Feng Xiang, a senior expert from the logistics industry, Mr. Jie Tang, Chairman of Joyvio Holding under Lenovo Group and Chairman of Fulllink Group, Mr. Hao Tang, Vice Director of Manufacturing Center of Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd., Ms. Mangli Zhang, Vice President of Best Inc., Mr. Hui Liu, Director of JD Data Research Institute, Mr. Yaxiong Zhang, Drivers Operation Director of Didi Travel Platform, Ms. Xiaojun Dai, Automation Leader of Sinotrans Logistics Development Co., Ltd., Mr. Yuchun Wang, the Full-time External Director of China FAW Group Co., Ltd., Assoc. Prof. Lei Zhao from the Department, Ms. Liying An, COO and Co-founder of Beijing Neutronium Technology Co., Ltd., and Mr. Zhigang Zhou, Chairman of Intplog Technology Co., Ltd., voiced their views about such topics as smart manufacturing, systems engineering, new retailing, technological innovation, e-commerce and big data, new logistics and online ride-sharing service.

The final of the 12th Dongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition was officially unveiled on January 14, 2018. Prof. Ershi Qi, Director of Industrial Engineering Education Steering Committee of Ministry of Education and Vice Director of Academic Committee of Tianjin University, Prof. Zhibin Jiang, Vice Chairman of Chinese Industrial Engineering Institute of CMES, Mr. Yulong Yang, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company’s Manufacturing Department Director, and Prof. Kaibo Wang, Vice Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, delivered their speeches at the competition. This competition received 232 cases from enterprises and universities across the country. The finalists included 20 competition teams, which came from Tsinghua University, Jilin University, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China University of Mining and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sichuan University, Wuhan Textile University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University + East China University of Science and Technology, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company Huadou Plant, Baoji CRRC Times Engineering Machinery Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Motor Company Limited Dongfeng Nissan Dalian Branch, Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd, Zhejiang Chint Electrics Co., Ltd., Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd., Beijing Hyundai Motor Company, SAIC Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd., SAIC Maxus Automobile Co., Ltd. and Beijing New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd.

All the competition teams made presentations and a panel of 68 expert judges were invited to give scores. At last, the competition teams from Jilin University and Southwest University of Science and Technology were awarded the Grand Prize for Universities, and the competition teams from Baoji CRRC Times Engineering Machinery Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company Huadou Plant received the Grand Prize for Enterprises. The competition teams from Tsinghua University, China University of Mining and Technology and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics were recognized as the First Prize for Universities, and the competition teams from Dongfeng Motor Company Limited Dongfeng Nissan Dalian Branch, Zhejiang Chint Electrics Co., Ltd. and Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. received the First Prize for Enterprises. Some judges, including Prof. Dequn Zhou, Dean of College of Economics and Management of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Prof. Su Wu from Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, Prof. Feng Wu, Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of School of Management of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Prof. Liang Gao, Vice Director of Research and Development Office of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, made comments on each competition team’s performance.
After the prize-awarding ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Lefei Li, the Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Vice Head of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, said in the final speech that the platform to show IE charms will continuously be provided to get all the outstanding IE talents together so that they can promote and lead the theoretical research and industrial applications.

The "Tsinghua IE Sword" National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition is the most influential event of China’s industrial engineering arena. The competition has grown into an important platform to promote the sharing of the latest achievements in China for the last 12 years.
