Alumni Association of the Department of Industrial Engineering has provided a bridge of communications between graduates and the Department, after its establishment about half a year ago. On January 7th, Alumnus Yazhou Wang, who earned a master’s degree in 2002, came back to the department, and expressed his donation willingness.
In the talk with Prof. Heng Lin and Jian Yao (both emeritus), the coordinators of the Alumni Association, Mr. Wang reviewed his life on the campus, and attributed his achievements to what he had learned from the Department and professors, and to the Tsinghua spirits he held at work. When it came to the initiative of donation, Wang said, as a student from countryside, he felt a loss of talents for the university and the nation, if those students with strong desire to learn could not focus on their study because of their poor living conditions. Wang hoped to help students from poor families, so that they can focus on their study, change their fate, and contribute to the nation in the future.
Following his donation intention, Mr. Wang provided the first-round donation to four junior students, and promised to donate no less than 10,000 RMB every year, as “IE Alumni- Wang Yazhou Fellowship”, to assist and encourage students from poor families but with good academic performance.
