【Abstract】 Reliability is a fundamental attribute for the safe operation of any modern technological system. The demands from various industry sectors for the quantification of system reliability date back to the early 20th century and steadily grow till our times. Furthermore, the search for optimal system design, operation and maintenance strategies that minimize expense and maximize reliability has become an increasingly relevant task since the 1960s. These tendencies render the system reliability assessment and optimization two important topics in academic research and two necessary tasks in industrial applications. Consequently, a number of models and methods have been developed. Yet, new challenges emerge from the latest technological systems or the ongoing projects, such as the smart grids, mainly characterized by the complex and possibly intelligent behaviors of the components and the hybrid uncertainties embedded in the available modeling information. Developing new methods to confront these challenges is the goal of my research. The research works are grouped under the two main axes: 1) reliability assessment of components and systems; 2) optimization.

【Bio】Yan-Fu Li is a full professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering at CentraleSupélec, France, where he has been assistant/full professor since 2011. In 2010, Dr. Li obtained his PhD at National University of Singapore and was a post-doc research associate at the University of Tennessee in the same year. His research interests include system reliability, risk assessment and optimization. He is the author of over 30 publications on peer-refereed international journals, such as IIE Transactions, IEEE Transactions on Reliability, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering. He is a member of the technical program committee of several international conferences on reliability and risk. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of SRA. He is teaching three courses relevant to reliability, risk and optimization at the undergraduate and master levels.
