[Title] Shaping Competence in Job Redesign for Workplace Safety and Productivity: New Methodology & Immersive Learning Environment

[Abstract] Job design is an integral component in an organization. The way a job is designed affects a worker’s motivation and performance. A poorly designed job may inadvertently lead to issues with workplace safety and lost productivity. It is imperative that the organization develops an environment where workers feel motivated in their jobs and at the same time their work meets the goals of the organization. Well-designed jobs can have a positive effect on workers’ performance, motivation, satisfaction and safety on the job.  According to the hierarchical scheme of five basic needs of A.H. Maslow, humans need to stay alive, to be safe, to be with others, to be respected and to do work matching their gifts and abilities. Based on this, properly designed jobs and where necessary, redesign are crucial to effectively match the job to a worker’s strengths and abilities. This is of added importance especially in aging populations where increasingly elderly workers are reemployed back to the workforce to keep the economy going.
