报告题目：Flexible Supply Contract Strategies in Supply Chains

报告摘要：

Introducing innovative products has become a major competition strategy in many industries. Innovative products, for instance fashion apparel, are characterized by long lead-times, short selling seasons and high demand uncertainties. More often we encounter an inflexible condition where only one production batch is available because of the long lead-time. Therefore, it is difficult to match supply and demand very well, which often leads to a huge loss for supply chains.

We propose flexible supply contracts with options for such an inflexible supply chain. At the beginning of the planning horizon, the supplier offers a wholesale price, and also option purchasing and exercising prices. In addition to a firm initial order, the buyer can purchase options to adjust order quantity later. The supplier then determines the production volume. At the beginning of the selling season, with updated forecast, the buyer finalizes the order quantity by exercising options. We formulate both the buyer's and the supplier's profits functions, and analyze the contract from each player’s perspective. In numerical study, we illustrate that such flexible contract strategies improve both the buyer's and supplier's profits. And then, the performance of the whole supply chain is improved.
