Department of Industrial Engineering Hosts International Symposium on Innovative Talent Development, Strengthening University-Industry Collaboration and Talent Alignment

On the morning of March 26, the Department of Industrial Engineering hosted the International Symposium on Innovative Talent Development at Shunde Building. The symposium was part of the 25th anniversary series of the Department, aiming to promote collaboration and innovation among universities, enterprises, and government, and to advance international innovative talent development and university-industry synergy. Representatives engaged in in-depth discussions on international talent development, industry trends, and university-industry collaboration, exploring diverse approaches to align talent cultivation with industry needs.

At the Symposium

Associate Professor Lefei Li, Council Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming all attendees and presenting the department’s development history, disciplinary strengths, and internationalization achievements. He emphasized that in the context of global industrial restructuring and rapid technological evolution, talent development must integrate international vision, engineering practice, and cross-cultural communication skills. Associate Professor Chen Wang, Deputy Dean of Teaching, Associate Professor Liang Ma, Assistant to the Department Dean and Director of International Programs, Associate Professor Ye Cheng of the Department and Liang Yang, Senior Manager of External Cooperation at Tsinghua University’s Office for Domestic Partnerships, also attended the symposium. Representatives from enterprises and local governments were also present,jointly witnessing the opening of the event.

During the keynote report session, Associate Professor Ma presented on “Practice and Prospects of International Talent Development in the Department of Industrial Engineering,” detailing the department’s efforts in building international programs, optimizing the curriculum system, and innovating talent cultivation models. Industry representatives shared insights on the latest talent requirements. Mr. Guangzhi Li, President of Qingdao TGOOD Electric Co., highlighted the importance of versatile engineering talent in overseas operations. Mr. Xiaofei Gou, Vice President of R&D at Li Auto, analyzed changes in engineering talent competencies in AI-driven smart mobility scenarios. Mr. Longcai Dai, Director of the Digital Intelligence Center at Geely Automobile Group, introduced new models of university-industry collaboration under human-machine synergy.

In the recognition segment, the department honored individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions to talent development and university-industry collaboration. This was followed by a roundtable discussion, where participants exchanged views on talent cultivation models, curriculum systems, and practical training platforms, reaching several agreements on deepening collaboration. Associate Professor Chen Wang, Deputy Dean of Teaching, concluded the symposium by emphasizing the department’s commitment to advancing educational reforms and further enhancing talent development quality. She noted that, in the context of artificial intelligence and globalization, the department will strengthen university-industry collaborative education, with a focus on cultivating students’ system thinking, cross-cultural communication skills, and complex problem-solving abilities.
